ill feelings.....

The wife an I came out of the local mall the other day. She asked me what the hell was going on when I slammed on the brakes and reached for the camera. She was in bad shape. Key mark on driver's side from front to back and just dirty as hell. I should have left my name and number under the wiper. I held back the tears as I pulled away.

Unhappy Yep

Happened to me and SWOMBO.
Wife just out of the hospital from major abdominal surgery, car fresh from the paint shop.
I drove wife to our local Meijers (like Walmart only much better).
Pulled into handicapped parking by the entrance.
Hooked the red handicapped flag on the mirror and went in the store.
The store manager and security met us at the car when we came out.
An eighty year old man with Florida handicapped license plate was caught on camera.
He pulled up, waved arms, kicked our car then raked his key down both sides of our car and drove away.
The police advised us to not prosecute or sue, we would win, but it would cost thousands more in lawyer’s fees than we would ever recover.

This is why I say:
I can understand a thief, but vandals are just pure evil.

I get that feeling alot. For some reason, more often than not, I see more w123 diesels that are TRASHED than any other MBZ. I mean, beyond uncontrollable age wear and tear.... im talking wheels caked in so much brake dust theyre black, extremely faded paint that has obviously been neglected, interior trim pieces missing or broken. And that stuff wouldnt be so bad considering its fixable. THEN I take note of all of the clutter inside the cars I see.. gas station coffee cups strewn about, old drink bottles, crumpled papers and junk food everywhere, and so much grime buildup on the seats that no matter what the interior color is, be it palomino or navy, it looks closer to dirt brown! Thats what really gets me, because if someone cares about their car, they wouldnt let it get so junky inside. WHAT GIVES!?!?!!!

I think its time to start a world wide w123 protective services!!!!

Stop looking in my car!

Seriously though.. My 300CD is trashed. I am slowly bringing it back. Unfortunately I still drive it as well.

Sounds like the codgety old B@$T@RD had plenty of energy to walk from a normal parking space. If not he could have parked illegally himself, plenty of mobile people do it. It wouldn't cost you anything to prosecute, I think I would have. I do appreciate security cameras. I have gotten used to working under one and have come to prefer it.

Veloce, so you spotted my dad's car? It fits the description PERFECTLY, right down to the dirt brown palomino seats and armrest. If you want a real jerk, i'll have to turn myself in. I have a neglected 87 300D Someone confiscate the car from me, i can't afford to get it up to par.

Clutered interior?

I believe that a band of roving Gypsys are living in my car when I'm not using it.

I can't be that messy.

I would love to, but I did some checking with lawyers, they all want $4000.00 up front and say it will take 2 - 5 years because the old man lives in Florida. Oh, they also state that the best we can hope for is damage repair cost which is under $2000.00 total, not even a slap on the wrist for the old man.

We cried and forgot about it.

I am talking about criminal charges not a civil suit. Have the creep locked-up. The state pays, not you. I agree that a civil suit is useless, even if you got a judgment against the guy you would probably never see any money. Lawyers don't want anything to do with property suits, don't pay enough.

A good and proper paint job costs thousands.......sue for damages AND court costs. Hell get a lean agains his house and estate at least......Hell you could recover most if not all, and at least make his life a living hell.

Heck, a Molitov coctail through his window at his house at 3am can do wonders too. Just kidding.

OK, sure we all think MB's are special, they used to be. Now they're being driven by anyone that can afford the 4~500 a month lease, they're built about as reliably as a Ford Taurus (and look about the same). They ain't special anymore, they're Mopar.
The old ones, the old 123's, yeah, they are sort of special but they're also classic beaters, run them into the ground takes 25 years instead of the normal 5 or so. There are a lot of trash buckets out there. I'm guilty of driving around in an ugly, scratched up POS 123, but I'm trying to bring it back. I still like Mercedes because the doors thunk, but I find it hard to admire or even envy the driver of a new one. Sad.

If some idiot did that to me I think I might rip his arm off and beat him to death with it. Or maybe not.....and don't really want to find out either. My car is not perfect but it is really damn nice for 25 years old.

The trouble I have is I can't keep a nice car despite my best efforts.
The sun is fadeing the paint and interior before my eyes out on this coast, not to mention whatever is in the rain. People habitualy make messes in my car, dirty feet, trash, the woman is bad for sitting indian style in the pass seat(but we swallow that one for obvious reasons). Everywhere I park, some idiot will bang a door into it. I get off work and there are muddy dog paw prints all over it and more than a few scratches. Some dog is comeing out to the farm here at night and looking in the windows and draging paw's down the side of it. It's just unreal, and does not take long to make a car look kinda rough. Not to mention the amount of driving I do(800 a week or so) and being parked all day at the end of a quarter mile long dirt/rock driveway that semi's trundle down all day. The only way I'll ever have a *nice* car is to buy it and never drive the damn thing, and keep it in some sort of protective structure. I just don't understand how people can have such nice looking cars and actually DRIVE them.

In short, please don't pic on my old 123, the wheels are clean at least..
