oil or fuel behind ignition

The blower fan on my 1984 300D stopped working today and it was raining like cats and dogs here. I checked power to the plug going to the blower itself, nothing. someone suggested in another post to check the power supply to the plug. I pulled the the driver side lower panel and started to check for any lose connection. When I grab the plug behind the ignition I came across some oil or fuel from the plug and I think it was the reason the blower did not work.

Where is the oil coming from?

That is oil being sucked into the vac lines from the shut-off valve on the injection pump to the ignition switch. That is a sign of a bad shut-off valve (ie. torn diaphragm). If you haven't replaced it recently you'll probably want to. If you have replaced it recently you probably have residual oil in the line. You can pull the line and clean it out and keep and eye on it to see if more oil is coming through or if it was residual before the swap.

Check your Blower Fuse.

Below is a pic of mine. You see tne Vacuum shutoff Valve on the Steering Colum above and the Arrow points to a Weep Hole drilled into the Housing to allow Oil to come out.
The New Steering Colum Lock did not have that Hole.

While Oil there is an indication that your Fuel Injection Pump Diaphragm is on the Way Out I elected to keep using mine until it stops working as it still shutoss off OK.
I installed a Fuel Filter in the Vacuum Line so the Oil will gather in the Filter instead of going inside of the Car.
My old Ignition Switch had a lock on it so you had to have the Key in a certain Pisition to remove the Electrical Connector.
Also the Old Switch screws were loose and the Switch loose.

You might be able to remove the Iginition Switch to clean it with the Housing still on the Car but it would be easier with the Sterring Colum lock out of the Car.

The other pic is the Ignition Switch showing one of the Contact Points.
