300D Climate Control Woes

Here is the story:

'84 300D - Vents are fine, ACC is good, fan blows high on defrost and is controlable(high, low, auto) on the next switch over(up and down) but fan does not respond on the third (down only) or EConomy switch, except occasionally....

Is the problem those two switches? I can hear the compressor switch on and off as I toggle them, so I thought the switches should be ok...

I have already tried resoddering the contacts for those switches. Do I do the whole board next?

Also there are a number of pins that come through the board for some switches that do not have any sodder. Am I nuts or blind?

Thanks for reading my sad story. Any help is appreciated.

Does sound like the pushbutton unit, I'd recheck the solder joints, and do the ones for the other buttons. While you're in there, might want to check the foam tubing from the bottom of the sensor in the center of your dash...if that's deteriorated, it can cause problems in the modes you mentioned (normal and economy), although max and min blower should still work, even in that case.

Thanks, a soddering I will go... tonight.

I assume I should only have to worry about the main board, not the two on the fan and temp controls...

Is there ever an issue on the connections to the two plugs?

Thanks

All soddered out

I have tried to resodder all the connections on the main board, twice, and still have the problem. Is it time to bite the bullet and buy a rebuild unit?
