Thumbs down Sig pictures SUCK LEMON!!!

I am on dialup.
This means that a long thread with ten sig pictures can take half an hour to download.
I was forced to leave one group because they went crazy with sig pictures.
This is one feature that needs to be turned off, it adds nothing and slows down everything for no gain.

Quit whining, you Luddites!! Go to www.opera.com and download their free version of the Opera web browser and use it instead of IE or Netscape. Not only is it more secure and a gazillion times faster than IE and Netscrape, it has a neat feature for the trailing-edge, dial up crowd: the ability to choose, simply and easily, whether or not you want graphics to display on any page that is served up. In addition, it has a great built-in pop up blocker and opens multiple pages in a tabbed format. Very nice.

I used to have some real problems with hijacked home pages and multiple consoles when using IE but Opera is immune to most, if not all of that garbage.

I still keep IE loaded on my machine because some on-line forms and things do not serve correctly to Opera but, my primary surfing tool is now Opera.

I am also on dialup. I live so far out in the boonies that they have to pipe in sunshine. There is no hope for having high speed internet here any time soon.

I don't know the percentage, but the vast majority of internet users are now on high speed connections of some description. That's why hardly anyone now worries about putting out lots of graphics.

We are in the minority so we might as well get used to it.

Have a great day,

Under quick links, select Edit Options. There's an option in there, apparently enabled by default, to show signatures. You should be able to stop seeing images by disabling/unchecking that box.

My browser, Mozilla Firefox, also allows me to turn off images to varying degrees -- disable all images, or images that come from somewhere other than the site being browsed (nice for hiding banner ads) -- which is nice. Plus you'll get fewer popups, less spyware and adware through something like Mozilla or Opera than you are guaranteed to get through IE or Netscape. I don't even run IE anymore unless forced to on an internal company website that requires IE, or a bill-pay site that uses scripting Mozilla won't play nicely with.

Yep yep that should do it. I visit a 4x4 board that the sig pictures may be found by some to be offensive. When I worked at a Elm. school I had to turn off the sig. pics so not to cause problems reading post on my lunch break

Lightbulb Webwench nailed it...

I complete agree with Webwench, everyone including the high-speed folks should consider firefox. All the internet geeks love this product for its speed and easy of use. If all you use is IE you should consider downloading the product below, and just trying it, it's free and it is amazing. If you have problems with pop ups, homepage constantly changing etc, this will solve it...

If I had to liken firefox to a tool, this would be the nifty bent wrenches that Mercedes Sources Sells to remove you’re injectors; while IE would be the strait ones. The straight ones work, and everyone has them, but the bent ones get the job done easier and painlessly.

Yes! Two thumbs up! I think that yours truly might even have suggested this (but without your additional helpful details about exactly how to do it) in the "politics don't belong in the diesel forum" thread. I paraphrase the thread title, but you get the idea.

For those who may wail that they have to be able to see the sigs so as to be able to see what cars are in a poster's stable, well, that information is just a couple of clicks away in this forum software. Click on that user's name (right there in the post, in a monster big font,) then click on "View Public Profile". Shazam! the sig content (good, bad, or ugly) is right there to enlighten and/or offend, as the case may be. While one is there, one can also switch off avatars (I'm seeing some political ones) and other images, if it suits.

I find that "sigs off" makes the forum easier to read, anyway. The screen real estate is just too precious.
