Diesel Purge - Amazing Result!

My car starts, idles and runs fine. However, lately I’ve noticed a mild case of nailing. The valves were adjusted about 24,000 kilometers ago and I’m aware that another one is due soon (recommended every 24,000 kilometers according to the maintenance manual). But what I thought I’d do first is a Diesel Purge. Result: In an instant after consuming only half of a can, the engine idles a lot smoother, the nailing is gone and the engine sounds much quieter. Amazing!

My maintenance record indicated that on average I do a Diesel Purge every 8,000 kilometers (3 times per year) and it sure does help in keeping the engine healthy. Try it and you will love the result.

My $0.02

Two extremely dumb questions - 1) Please describe "nailing", and 2) what is Diesel Purge?

Ducati,
Though I have read through thread-after-thread where "nailing" has been used as a term to describe what sounds to me like nails being run through a pop corn popper, I didn't actually find a definition. I gave up reading the posts to find an actual cause. I am certain it must be in these forum archives somewhere . . .

My '87 300TD has what I consider they refer to as "nailing" when it idles and to a lesser extent on initial acceleration. When I run diesel additives it is less than when I don't. Diesel purge, such as LubroMoly, is a concentrated injector cleaner. I recently used it for the first time (ordered it online) and found it reduced what I consider to be "nailing" substantially. The idle became smoother while performing the purge process and continued. Less smoke on start-up. I have never noticed a lot of smoke since taking ownership of the car and it does still smoke a very limited amount. Having 137k +/- miles with possibly the original injectors I suspect I will see other gains when these are replaced.

Do a search for "nailing" and you will find many threads to read through.

I haven't found anything called diesel purge by me (southeast Wisconsin) But, I have been 2 gallons of B-100 (Biodiesel) for every other fillup. Plugged my first fuel filter but after that the car runs alot quieter has more pickup, smokes less on acceleration and seems to get better fuel economy. At almost 4 bucks a gallon I really can't afford to put in more but am quite pleased with the results I am getting.

You probably have to get it on line. Do a search for "Lubra Molly" "Diesel Purge" . Think I spelled Lubra correct.

B100 should do you real good to though.
