Can't remove rear brake rotor.
 

I'm having a heck of time trying to remove the rear brake rotor and it seems to be rusted on the hub(?). I've tried banging it loose, heating it and anything else short of trying to pry it off. Yes, I relaxed the parking brake shoes as well.
Any suggestions?

I had to use a mini sledge hammer to help it off :D They weld themselves on their quit well.

I tried a hammer but I was afraid to use my mini sledge thinking that I might deform the rotor to the point it would be useless. Is there any particular area that I need to hit the rotor to get it off?

Get a can of PB Blaster spray around the hub let it soak overnite then use a block of wood and a lump hammer . should come off quick

Rent a wheel puller.

If you take a propane torch and warm the entire rotor up to about 175 degrees, it will come right off.

Don't make the mistake of heating it near the hub. You need to heat the entire disc, evenly, so that the whole slab of metal reaches about 175 degrees or so. This might take you 15 minutes because it is a decent piece of iron. You should get an expansion of the hub diameter of about .001 at this temperature (100 degree rise above ambient) which should be sufficient to break any bonds that the disc has with the hub.

Much easier than smashing the thing to death.

lietuviai I didn't care about hurting the rotor I was replacing it. You shouldn't resurface MB rotors. Besides why would you their so cheap?

$32.18 is for one rotor, not two. The picture does show two, but it is intended to show the rotor from both sides. I don't think it means that you get a pair for that price.

I replaced them on my 1985 300SD last month. :D

Front pair $44.46

Rear pair $29.19

Total was $73.65

The risk of warping is too great. You might not find out about the problem until you really need the brakes.

I got mine off with a rubber mallet, rotating during impacts.

Your rear break may have the parking break shoes holding it on. Rotate the rotor look in the hole and see if there is a screw anywhere to loosen.

I get new ones 'stinkin cheap' on ebay. I think I paid 29.00 for a pair last time.

The reason I needed to get it off is I have a noise coming out of that wheel/axle. I got the rotor off w/o any damage by using my small sledge hammer and spraying some WD/40 between the rotor and hub. There was a lot of rust in there. I put a small amount of grease around the hub so if I ever need to get it off again it'll be easy.

Oh yes, I'm also trying to win the title "The Cheapest Benz Owner" on this forum. :D
