Idle is "searching"

When I pulled into work this morning I noticed my idle was "searching" ever so slightly. My tachometer is broken so I couldn't look at it for verification but I could hear it. It was really slight but enough to make me notice. I've never noticed my car doing this before. Any ideas on what could be causing it? ('85 300d)

Thanks,

Scott

....Rack damper...................on the IP.

I replaced the IP rack pin about 2 years ago. I can't imagine it's going bad again??

Scott

p.s. Isn't the rack pin for cutting down on shakes? My problem is with surging not shaking.

Maybe it just needs adjusted a little then...................

I put new fuel filters on a few weeks ago. I think the rack pin is adjusted all the way in already. Again, I don't think that pin has anything to do with surging. I thought it just cut down on oscillations in the injection pump which prevents it from shaking.

I'm contemplating pulling my fuel injectors anyway and having them checked and balanced. I've never had them off the car. Maybe they have something to do with it?

I thnk it has to be near he right spot, not too far in or out or that would happen. But I could be wrong.

With the engine warmed up try adjusting the rack pin out until the engine noticably starts shaking, then back in just enough to stop the shaking.

Now that the weather has cooled off, Marlene does that before getting to operating temp. I kinda like it, coz it reminds me of an old Detroit 4-53 we used to have.
