what are these called?

I know them as vacuum valve levers, located under the black cover on top of the valve cover with vac lines going hither and yon... I want to order replacements- this pic isnt mine- the ones on my 82 300td are worse! yeesh!

A link to the fastlane order page would be most helpful! I can't seem to find them... cheers, Kevin

Get rid of them! I'll simplify the mess of vacuum hoses under the hood; as far as I know they only operate the EGR anyway. (Unless you need it to pass inspection...)

Be very careful about just getting rid of them. One of the circuits supports tranny shifting and downshifting depending on the car/year/engine.
Check the valve before just replacing the lever. The seal around the plunger can fail causing the valve to leak. Test it bu sucking on one of the tubes. If it is allowing air to flow then press the plunger. It shoudl completely stop. then test the other hole in the opposite maner. If you can suck air thru the hole when it should be off. the gasket around the plunger is bad and you should replace the complete unit.
Check the routing of the hoses. If you want to disable the EGR then just ignor that particular one. But don't just remove them all without seeing which system it is operating.

On my 81 300TD the circuits on the valve cover were separate from the transmission vacuum modulator.

http://www.ultrahot.com/vacuum/egr_82_300d.jpg

Most likely exactly the same for djugurba's. (And looking at the more complex setups for the 85's they don't seem to be any different in that respect.)

In any case, my tranny shifts fine with all that crap removed. You all are free to keep that mess in there if you feel like it, if course .

i replaced those little 'levers' as well and it made no difference whatsoever. the valve itself tested good. then somehow golf tees got stuck in the other end of thos vac. lines. tranny shifts a bit better and no egr..
