190D 2.2 Injection line advice needed

Howdy,

I have a 1984 190D 2.2 that has had a pretty significant failure. One of the rigid lines from the injection pump to the injector is leaking at the pump. We're talk'n an "old faithful" geiser size leak not just some small leak. This has unfortunately stranded me in Pryor, OK although I have alternate transportation for the time being.

I took the line off and found that the compression fitting had a flat spot on it which prevented it from sealing. I have new lines on order, but am going back to Pryor tomorrow to work on the car. I won't have the lines till Friday, but have a few of questions:

(1) Is there any chance that I can use aluminum foil or a thin piece of copper to shim it so I can drive the car home? Has anyone ever done this? I really don't want to leave the car over the weekend. I'd be driving 180 miles or so.

(2) The line looks quite polished around the flat spot on the "head" that fits into the delivery valve presumably due to the high pressure diesel leak. What's the chance that this did damage to the corresponding sealing surface on the delivery valve?

(3) Any advice on putting the new lines in? I hope to only put them in once and never have this problem again.

Thanks much,

Sholin

p.s. This problem developed after I took my car in to be serviced. They did several repairs for me including resealing the injection pump. I guess the old injection lines didn't have any more remove and replace cycles in them. Although the mechanic is highly regarded and he did a good job at every thing else, he did not tell me I needed new lines (they also have flat spots on them where they have been rubbing together), so I'm not very happy with them.

Sholin,
see my post about this

I have gone thru 2 lines in 2 yrs so far, have a set of spares for 1-3 from Hanno Schill on this list, but this time its line #4 that is leaking again. So, I am bending a new set from heavier gauge steel.

Thanks much for the reply. So do you think that damage has been done to the injector to prevent good sealing? Also, how does thicker metal work? Are the lines thicker on the outside and have the same hole diameter?

I had an injector line break right at the pump and found a 3/16" brass ferrule sealed it perfectly. I had to drive it about 500 miles with it on there and it was still fine when I changed out the lines. Here is the thread I posted about it http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/diesel-discussion/102497-where-get-injector-lines.html?highlight=injector+line

Thanks much. I was able to polish up the sealing surface on the line and reinstall it so that it no longer leaks. At least that got me home. My new lines should be in today.
