cabin push button climate control unit melted 83 300d turbo

help my push button climate control melted and filled my car with smoke.
got a new one it got warm right away.. when i plugged in the two white plugs , where do i look for a fix where might the short be and how can i track it down. i live in indiana the weather sucks and with no control unit im screwed please help

You probably have a shorted heater blower or the little motor on the heater pump is shorted. There is info on adding fuses to these two items in the 300D somewhere in the Forum, use a search for it.

I have seen the circuit boards in the climate control unit fried so bad that the copper is melted and gone. Don't stick another in until you find the short.
