eBay has no competition really. They want to keep it that way, for example several Chinese auction firms set up on the Internet, using similar techniques as eBay. They were bought up by - ta daa! Who else but eBay of course, because they want to grab any competition before it gets established.
If you combine the wealth of Pierre and Meg, the owners (who started eBay to buy and sell Pierre's Pez dispensers) they are worth more than Larry Ellison, the wealthiest man in California. Ebay is making them RICH!

Dieseldiehard--In Colombia SA there is a site--Http://www.mercado.libre.com that appears to be a eBay knockoff-its listed as an eBay affiliate on the front page but note the Small "b" in the ebay logo. The colors may be different also in the logo. All the affiliate countries of eBay are listed at the bottom of eBay's Home page. Http://http://mercadolibre.com/

The EBay folks have put a lot of effort into security.

I would be very concerned about new competitors not being ready to protect your identity (if you have one -- mine isn't worth worrying about).
