Do you have to be a member to get a Badge?

Do you have to be a MB Club member to get a badge for high mileage. What is the process? I looked on web page but found nothing.

Jimmy Joe 01-17-2005 02:47 PM

Anybody wanna sell some? :wink3:

Richard Eldridge 01-17-2005 02:53 PM

No, the high mileage awards (250K, 500K, 1,000,000) are sent out by the factory and have nothing to do with the MBCA. Do a search on "mileage wards" and/or "mileage badges" in this forum and all the particulars will be revealed.

Basically, you call MB USA at 1800 FOR-MERC (1800-367-6372) and ask for the form, which you fill out and take to a dealer. The dealer verifies the mileage and you send it in.

They send the badge right away, if they have them on hand. I have heard that several members in this group have waited over a month, and were told that they are redesigning the badge.

There is also a lapel pin, which is based on how far you have driven Mercedes vehicles you have owned.

MBCA sells a membership badge that is rather nice, but prone to rust on the inside.

BusyBenz 01-17-2005 08:01 PM

Just like Volvo! :D Except they start at 100K..................

Excellent explanation. I just got my mileages verified for both of my Benzes today and I'll send off the form first thing tomorrow morning.

Lycoming-8 01-17-2005 09:51 PM

The "mileage" figures for the badges are in Km, so a bit of math is involved unless your cars are fitted with Km odometers.

Richard,
Thanks for the info. I found it so helpful, I too have called for my badge. I know for a fact that my car is well over the 250,000 mark, but the odometer broke at 201,000. I have recently fixed the odometer, but how do I prove that to the dealer when I get the form?? Am I up the creek without a paddle until the repaired odometer reaches 250,000???

meltedpanda 01-18-2005 09:25 AM

I spoke with MBUSA yesterday and told me they would send the form. I also inquired about original sticker and any "other" information they could send on my car and was told to fax in current registration to prove ownership and they would send me the stuff. Cool, customer service, even after 21 years :)

Sticker -- Window Sticker? That would be very cool

cscmc1 01-18-2005 09:54 AM

FYI -- from an email from MB Customer Service when I asked them to send me the mileage verification form:

"Mercedes-Benz offers High Mileage Award for vehicles that have accumulated 155,000, 312,500, 468,000, 625,000 miles."

So there are your mileage totals (rather than Km totals).

Chris

Richard Eldridge 01-18-2005 01:06 PM

Glad to hear this was useful. I can't answer what you do about the broken speedometer. Maybe, if you have receipts for other repairs that have the mileage listed on them this might suffice.

MBCA membership gets you the STAR magazine and they sell a nice grille badge (as I said, it tends to rust on the inside, so spray it with some Rustoleum for better results) and a blue and white member sticker (which can get unhappy in the FL sunshine :sun_smile in about two years). The magazine and the local MBCA Club is great, though.

We need more wrenchers in the MBCA- it would provide a balance to the realtors. :P

When I got my 155K mile badge they also sent a stamped certificate, which accompanies the badge and respective mileage achievement... its personally signed, and is rather nice as an addition to your collection of paperwork on the car.

Also, when I called to have the form sent to me, they sent an info pamphlet, which on the cover, had a GORGEOUS midnight blue w123 coming around a bend on a country road! :)

CannonBall 01-18-2005 02:50 PM

ok, I know this is a shot in the dark, but I'll try. My MB odometer is at 302k miles. However, it hasn't worked for the last 5 years, and it stopped working at various other times throughout the period that the first owners had it. I realize it would be an assumption, but I know the car has been driven about 8k in just the last year and was driven daily before that, is there any way to interpolate milage and get the 312 instead of the sissy 155?

Whunter, is there a way to prove the real mileage of the car even if the odometer stopped working?? Id be very curious to know. I also live in Palm Beach, Boynton Beach to be exact. Id love for you to take a look at my car whenever your round this area (defrosting I would assume). :sun_smile

Richard, Thanks for the info. I guess if there is no way of proving the mileage Im going to be stuck with the sissy 155,000 badge for know?? :(

You and me both! My forms are on the way, too. My 190E has 190K on it (2nd engine, though). I'm still on the hunt for the rust-free bargain W123 diesel in my area. (Isn't everyone?)

fz500sel 01-19-2005 11:02 PM

They ask you to go to a MB stealership and have the mileage verified. I took the form and filled it out and then went to a female coworker and asked her to sign the part where the stealership is supposed to sign. She did. I mailed the form in and in a couple of weeks I got my badge in the mail. I figure for all they know I got a receptionist or someone like that to come out to my car to verify the mileage.

:D

TonyFromWestOz 01-20-2005 10:12 AM

I wish!
Unfortunately MB Australia do not participate in the mileage badges as MB USA does (neither do thay have a free Roadside assist:().
Would anyone care to send me a pair of 250 000km badges for Fatmobile 3 and Josephine?
I would be happy to pay shipping and a small amount for your time.

I would be too, but evidentially I'm never going to get it. MB claims to have mailed them out TWICE and I have seen NEITHER (but did get the pin). I even went to the PO and asked if they had them sitting on some shelf undelivered for some reason. Guess I will try to have MB mail them to a different address? Every time I read about someone else getting a badge, I get jealous. I'm about ready to drive to NJ and just grab the badges for myself. I think my ar had about 190k on it when I ordered these ... now it has 205k+ ... maybe I'll be in the next mileage bracket by the time MB and USPS get it together enough to get this thing in my mailbox. Grrrrrrr.

Benz should also offer 'badges" to those who keep 15+ year old cars going like maybe an "ACC" badge after you have mastered the complexities - or maybe one for switches, electrical, or even a VACUME badge :D Mabe you could turn in parts reciepts to qualify

I do not have a MB dealer close by :(

Not to offend you but M-B and Chrysler dealers aren't buddies. I hate reading such ignorant/false statements that have filled up the whole place since the merger of Daimler-Benz AG and Chrysler Corporation.

It was an honest question. And the two are certainly not perfect strangers anymore, like it or no(I would be a resounding NO). Anyone else think the 300M screams old Mercedes wannabe?

Any, kind of a bummer that jump between 155K and 300something K on the mileage badges, even at 281K I still only get the barely worth mentioning first badge.. :(

Oh yes the two are still perfect strangers. Does the 300M scream old Mercedes wannabe? Hell no!! Maybe you meant the 300 (300M has been discontinued). Still, the 300 is in no way like a Benz. All those things happening are at the corporate and engineering/product development levels of DaimlerChrysler. The dealers have no relations whatsoever. THERE IS NO SIMILARITY BETWEEN A MERCEDES-BENZ AND A CHRYSLER! Mercedes and Chrysler aren't like Buick and Chevrolet. Is that in your head yet?

300, 300M, whatever it is, the large square grill and headlights scream old world MB(read:w126) styling to me. Just a very casual and fairly disintristed observation. Touchy subject, eh?

I'm going to regret this, but you say "those things" happening are at a corporate and "engineering/product development" level, but the dealers have no relation. Then there is no similarity between the two? I assume it's just the wording that is kind of odd.

Note that I don't pay any attention at all really to new cars/new car news. I heard they "merged" somehow, beyond that I have paid no more attention to them than any other. As I said, just casual observation, namely that w126 looking thing they sell at mopar dealers now, and talk about diesel jeeps and such.

wolf_walker 01-26-2005 09:48 PM

"The rear-wheel-drive 300 and Dodge Magnum share about 20 percent of their parts, by value, with the Mercedes-Benz C class and E class. Parts include the front-seat frames and steering columns."

http://www.autoweek.com/news.cms?newsId=101413

just observation...

I know that this is going to bother you quite a bit, but Mercedes is using quite a few parts in many Chrysler vehicles. Do you really think that one company is going to have completely separate mechanical parts just because one of their divisions is entitled "Mercedes-Benz"?

Wake up and get with the program.

Old Navy recently bought a Dodge Magnum and it uses a W220 chassis and many common components under the hood.

People buy a Mercedes today because of marketing. They like the three pointed star on the hood and the recognition they get. Whether it shares parts with Chrysler products is irrelevant. M/B has the star, Chrysler does not.

braverichard 01-26-2005 09:58 PM

That makes them Mercedes-Benzes? That's pretty shallow... and you forgot to state that the five speed transmission is also from Benz. Not to mention the system that shuts off 4 cylinders of the Hemi while cruising on the highway which was used before on the Benz V12. But do those make it a Benz? Hell no. And the Dodge Magnum doesn't use the W220 chassis. It uses several aspects of it, but those were all engineered by Chrysler. An example is the suspension setup, which while it looks like the M-B setup is actually a Chrysler version of the M-B one that rides a bit differently.

Even the diesel engine in the Jeep Liberty isn't from M-B. So where is the relation? It isn't a touchy subject to me. I just hate to see people believe so much and stand so strong by wrong info and misconceptions. But I think I've come to the point at which I'll let the misinformed stay as they are. I'll let this go now as this isn't even what this thread is about.

wolf_walker 01-26-2005 10:00 PM

If it's any consolation, they can swap parts all they want, I don't care enough for either one to even get the model names correct(300/300M?)
Anyway..

:)

Me too.

But, I will add that a vehicle is composed of the sum of its parts. The more parts are shared with other vehicles, the less "unique" it becomes. It is entirely possible for the manufacturers to share all mechanical components and have the difference between them simply be the sheet metal and the star on the hood.

Who would know the difference?

Other than you and I, of course.

See Ford Ranger/Mazda pickup for a number of years, and a ton of other cars.
Doing what I do for a liveing(salvage yard, parts sales), I spend all day looking at what will fit what from another vehicle. So it's something I tend to notice without trying to.

Don't sweat it... it was an honest question. If I could answer it, I would! I'm kind of curious, too. I'll have to drive an hour + to get to a MB dealership to have my form signed! I know the Chrysler dealer in town personally... maybe I should ask him to sign it and see what happens when I mail it in (???).

Good luck!

Badges

My form for the sissy badge is in the mail as of today. We also sport an European Delivery badge. Before I left Germany, they handed me the ED badge and said I'd better hand carry this, as they often times come up missing during the voyage across the pond. If you live near a Stealership, they have the form on hand.

Clearly, some people are a bit touchy about the fact that M/B and Chrysler are the same company now. Their beloved three pointed star is going to be compromised by M/B parts going into Chrysler vehicles.

Sacriledge. :D :D

In answer to your question, I am quite sure (without any facts, however) that no Chrysler dealer will have anything whatsoever to do with Mercedes vehicles, parts, mileage badge, or otherwise.

If this does ever happen, someone in Kansas City is going to have an MI. :D

Of course, there are many addtional badges available to the true Mercedes-Benz™ afficionado. Here are but a few:

The much-prized but hightly-secretive:"32nd-degree Timing Chain Elongation" badge

The utilitarian: "I Did a Solo Oil Change and My Diesel Still Shuts Off With the Key" badge

And, my personal fave, the: "Rear Footwell Swimming" merit badge

I definately don't qualify for that first one!

However, I'm proud to say that after all the mucking around I've done under the hood, including all the oil changes and GPs and whatnot, I've never caused a vacuum problem. :) Sign me up for that badge!

And I really don't want that last badge.... I found some moisture there after my last drive, and I'm really hoping it was just my friend's wet feet. I'm afraid to lift up the panels.

What about a mercedes shop badge? I mean, could we actually get a badge made for us? Maybe even a general "DIY" badge celebrating the spirit of the home-wrencher? I'm going to look around for some pricing..

EDIT: I just spoke with Gary at http://www.qualitylapelpins.com who makes custom grille badges. Browsing their website I noticed that they make lots of mercedes badges for clubs, and knew what I was talking about when I mentioned badges about the same size as the high-mileage awards.

He said that there are a lot of variables that determine price, but that for a quantity of 50 (which is what I threw out there), plan on a price in the 'high teens' each. There are no major price break points, just a sliding scale of higher quantity = cheaper so he said, "Just figure out how many you need, and get that many, we adjust the price to be cheaper even if you are buying just 55 or 60".

Would anyone be interested in a mercedesshop.com badge?

peace,
sam

Question: Do you get both badges if your car is over the 500k mark or just the 500k badge?:D

braverichard 12-02-2005 05:18 PM

I've often wondered about that. My guess is that if you fill out the form and your odometer is at 500,000 km, you'll only get the 500,000 km badge. But I think it would be nice to get the 250,000 km one as well, just to show you reached and passed that stage.
