To buy or not to buy -- that is the question

I've reached an odd dilema. On my way home from work I've been driving by a house with a yellow 300DT parked out front now for about 6 months. The car has been in the same place the entire time. Save one move closer to the road right around Christmas time. I left a note in the mailbox at the house asking if the owner might be interested in selling.

Several weeks passed and I heard nothing and thus forgot about it.

Well yesterday I got a call from the owner. He is willing to sell. However, he's pretty firm on the price. I haven't had alot of luck actually driving the car. You'd be supprised how hard it is to actually meet up with the college daughter of a car owner who could car less if he sells it or not.

Anyhow, I am planning on getting a PPI tomorrow if I can actually get the keys in my hand. Its a 1983 300DT with a transplanted motor from an '85 300DT. The chassis has 220k on it and the motor has 130k.

Pros:
3rd seat
Leveling system in good order
Luggage rack with crossmembers

Cons:
Couple rusty spots.. both front fender wells and a little on the passenger rear fender wells. The picture below is the worst of all of them
No detectable bondo or filler in the body
Manual sunroof is sealed shut
PO says the torque converter seal has a slight leak
Engine is clean without looking like it was cleaned recently

Obviously I need to drive it and have it inspected. However, he only wants $2,200 for it. Am I crazy for even considering it?
