what were they thinking.... when they built this car

yuck yuck... nasty color
|
they were thinking.................
..................that someone might like emerald green.
Somebody bought it, so, they were probably right. :D My dear friend who is a wholesaler in the used car business puts it this way: "There is an ass for every seat" |
Beauty is in the eye of.....
They were thinking: There is an ass for every seat.
Ever see the lime green color on Porsches? We called it anti-theft green. Too ugly to steal. |

.........................you lookin inside my head????????????? :D |
Ever seen that houndstooth pattern cloth they use on Euro models? Very tasteful and understated. NOT!
|
I don't know, I kind of like it! :D I'm not kidding I would buy it just to have the only one, besides it looks clean.
|
I wouldn't want the interior that color....don't believe Coverlay makes a green dash cap :D

If the price was right I would take it. SDL's are tough to find! And I've seen worse.... Ever seen gold with the red interior? Kinda looked like the decor in a Chinese restaurant. RT
|
Yep their is! :D I am a sucker for a rare car.
|
That's a 300SEL.
|
Someone posted a pic of a navy blue 140 car, with a red interior. You want rare, That's your car.
It's somewhere on the forum. |
The father of a friend of mine bought an 80-81 Caddy Eldorado with that color combination. As an added bonus it had the dark green landau top. We still laugh about that car.
|
WOW, on a 140, I didn't even know Red or burgandy was an offered interior color since 1989
|
Oh my. At least it's clean and not worn out!
I don't think I could handle gold paint with red leather. Of course, I'm not really a fan of my color combination either... teal paint with tan leather. I'd rather have black on black or another dark color with black leather. edit: hey... 500th post. |
BFD. They had a pink Chevy 1500 truck on the sales lot for the longest time. Seller was pissed that they offered him $500 less than the average value. They told him that nobody forced him to buy a pink truck and that they would have trouble selling a pink truck to a guy.
|
If you painted the car with some brown and gray you'd have a pretty good camo scheme going so that you can drive off the road into the bushes when the police are chasing you ;)
|
At least you would never confuse that one with another Benz in a shopping mall parking lot.

Not that I can talk... my 92 Mustang GT was repainted green at one time (had been white). Only problem is they didn't replace the RED interior. Yuck! I bought it, though, because it was 100% stock, right down to the air box silencer. Most of them have been beaten to death by kids, so I counted myself lucky. Chris |
I didn't mind the color, love my blk on blk better. It sure was a good price @ only $2150. That's a whole-lot-a car for just over two grand.

I like that color combo. You Houston guys saw the 300SD at the meet, so I guess you understand why. Those seats would look good in the 300SD. Hmmmm.... thinking..... :bulb:

Just need a matching leisure suit, cowboy hat and alligator boots...
|
Dunno about you, but I'm looking forward to the day automakers start splashing color on cars again. Look at a freeway sometime -- mostly monochromatic white, black and silver with the occasional red, about as daring as anyone gets. A ribbon of dullness -- like too many PIBS (people in black) at a pseudo-hip party.
Give me back the rainbow -- the light blues, avocados, browns, oranges, reds, and burgandies -- that MB painted their cars when I worked for them in the mid '70s. Emerald green? Time to return to Oz. |

Is there a plaque on the dash that says "Built especially for Kermit T. Frog"? :D

Actually, I kinda' like it. I like unusual shades of green, blue, etc... It's the dark browns and golds that I can't stand. Mike |

I would own it even if its not my favorite color if the price was right...it looked to be in great shape. |
Wasn't that car formerly owned by the Wizard of Oz?
Or maybe that was one of the Emerald City's municipal vehicles? :D |
Love it!! I would have picked that car up in a heartbeat if I was in the market. Used to have a '79 Rabbit diesel in that color combo.... miss that car.

I would snatch that car up in a heartbeat. I like the color combo. It would be perfect to compliment the 300SD, which has the same color combo. We still need to get that upholstery repaired though to get it looking good.

I like rare cars and rare options. That is why I jumped on my SDL, find me another 300SDL that is blue on black cloth. I have never seen another. I think rare colors are cool, I would buy a red W126 or green one without a second thought. Every MB these days is either black, silver, or white. I know they are easy to keep clean (except for black) but come on silver is so. If I ever bought a new MB it would be red or green or some odd special order color.
|
Uhhhh...nice color.....
I see now why Chrysler bought Mercedes....I first believed it was for the excellent quality, fine craftsmanship, and prestigue....then I seen these pictures, and it came to me that Chrysler realized they had some on the inside selling Mercedes some K-car seat material, and figured the problem would grow, so they bought the company to cover up... :D
|
everyone has their own taste
Or not!
Years ago I used to go by a house that had a '67 Olds 98 - a huge car. It was light pink with an olive green vinyl roof and interior. I would think they bought it because it must have been a bargain ... until they bought a 72 Cutlass in the SAME colors. They were some ugly cars. Chuck |

I get used to it. :o Dark blue is definitely preferred. ;) |
Quote:
Ummm....actually, it was the other way around. Mercedes bought Chrysler. Good for Chrysler, bad for Mercedes. :( Mike |

Don't get me wrong my next one will probably be silver! :D It is so easy to maintain and keep clean. Dark cars are a pita, they need to be cleaned all the time or they look like crap. It just gets old going to a new MB lot and seeing maybe 60%+ of the cars sitting their shades of silver. They have shades of silver now. |
When I was growing up (in the 70's) my dad had a friend that had a 450SEL that was painted signal red and had a rare interior - the place on the seats where your back and bottom would touch was a red and light tan check cloth and the rest of the seat was either MB Tex or leather but solid red. I am thinking the carpeting was light tan (same color as the tan background in the cloth).
I also remember the Gucci Cadillac Sevilles. My mother thought they were the deal - but, then again, she liked the '80 Seville that we called "Quasi modo" from the Hunchback movies. A little old blue hair in our town used to drive a big mid to late '60s Olds 98 that was lavender both inside and out. She also wore lavender clothes. I guess maybe Oldsmobile would work with their customers at the time and do special color combos maybe? |

Well I could stop at Home Depo grab a nice shade of paint (puke green maybe? yellow?) a few brush's and fix that problem for you! :D

Their may be brush strokes and a little dirt and drips. But no orange peel and overspray. Plus it will only run you $50? :D How can you go wrong? You could have the only yellow SDL around. I will even paint your interior for an extra $20. :D
|
$70 for a complete paint job? Sign me up! Will you paint my windshield too? Visability cannot get any worse.

Not to rub it in but... :D
My brand new pit free windshield is so clear, driving into the sun isn't a problem anymore! :D Ahh nothing like a perfectly clear free windshield! :D :D :D If you have glass coverage call your insurance company not your agent. If it is a safty issue they should pick up the bill. |
