Have you ever passed on a buy because of Color?

I think I might just do that.

I just looked at an 81 300sd with 158K on the clock. Pretty good shape, records since 100K, semi-recent $3600 paint job (not accident related), no rust, interior in good shape. Everything worked (really!) except for the power locks (and I'm pretty sure where the problem is.)

He was asking $2550, so I could get it for let's say $2200-2300. The only reason I didn't drop the cash for it right there was that it was brown  . It's like a turd on wheels. My girlfriend thinks they are all ugly, so she didn't see what my problem was. But I think they look sweet, except for brown... At least it was good shape brown.

I've been looking for quite awhile, so maybe I'm just numb to passing on cars by now. But have any of you done this, passed on a car because of color???

I passed on a SD that was gold with crimson interior. Looked like a Chinese restaurant on wheels. You ain't the only one. RT

I passed on many an SDL because of the color. I couldn't accept white or black or gold or light blue and I couldn't accept an interior of red or blue.

Even the gray that I have on the SDL is not a favorite, but, I do very much enjoy the palomino interior.

The SD is also grey and has a black interior. No real enthusiasm for that combo either.

I don't care if it is immaculate. Don't buy it if you are not above the 60% line as to color preferences.

I've certainly skipped eBay auctions if the car was a color I didn't like, interior or exterior. I have a strong preference for beige interiors, for example, and have a hard time getting any interest worked up in something with the blue interior (no offense to any of you with blue interiors, I hope).

I've passed on a bunch because of color, or with Benzes, interiors especially.

Now Porsche used to have a hideous green color that we called "Porsche Antitheft Green"

Anyone who dislikes their black on black or dark grey on black can trade me my tan on tan :D

Yep. I have seen a couple of very nice cars with blue interior  but just could not warm up to them. In fact I really don't like any cars that have a "non earthy" toned interior. Black looks nice sometimes, if the cabin is large enough, but it is awful during the hot summers we have out here. Grey is ok.

Yup. IMHO, MB's do not look good in silver or black. Ugh!

Look at the color offerings of the new CDI's. Several different shades of "silver". They're all just "gray" to me. Same with black. What the heck is "onyx", anyway...?

I'm partial to a tan, white, or blue exterior, and a tan or blue interior.

Tan... What did they used to call it? Manilla Bamboo or something like that?

Seems to me that I used to see tan W123's all over the place years ago. Never see that color any more. :(

Only when there is rust on below the brown color.

MB's don't look good in black? Take a look at a cherry W126 in black, a very hard color to maintain but when it is clean. W123's look ok in black.

I'm not that picky as long as the interior isn't red or blue.

They look great from the factory, but, how many of them look good after 17 years? Unless they lived in a garage and avoided the parking lots, most of them don't look so great anymore.

Hatterasguy 02-06-2005 11:25 AM

True, dark colors are the hardist to keep looking good.

superbeast1098 02-06-2005 07:39 PM

My car is....

My cars color is what MB called Hell Beige.... When I first got the car, I hated the color. I thought the palomino interior looked decent, but I hated that Hell Beige paint......

But now, I have actually warmed up to it....

I like black on my brothers 300 SD. thats because of the euro headlights on it. Something about the euro lamps that goes good with the black paint

Our 201 was cream? Not too sure. Can't remember what the inside looked like. Wife hated it. She said it reminded her of decaying teeth. After it was sold, she missed it.  Go figure. Her 202 was Obsidian Black with a cream or tan interior. Her 210 is a Obsidian black with (I call it blakc) interior, some say it is grey. Who knows.

Does it make a difference to me? Not really unless I am bargaining then I will use everything I can get.

My first thing is to look for defects, followed by features. Unless the color is pink, where I know I will have trouble selling it, I really don't care a whit.

Wow, If ever I saw a list of people ripe for paint sprayer , paint , painting instruction manuals, temporary plastic shelters, explosion proof exhaust fans Salesmen...
THIS IS IT !!!
