Have you ever passed on a buy because of Color?

I think I might just do that.

I just looked at an 81 300sd with 158K on the clock. Pretty good shape, records since 100K, semi-recent $3600 paint job (not accident related), no rust, interior in good shape. Everything worked (really!) except for the power locks (and I'm pretty sure where the problem is.)

He was asking $2550, so I could get it for let's say $2200-2300. The only reason I didn't drop the cash for it right there was that it was brown . It's like a turd on wheels. My girlfriend thinks they are all ugly, so she didn't see what my problem was. But I think they look sweet, except for brown... At least it was good shape brown.

I've been looking for quite awhile, so maybe I'm just numb to passing on cars by now. But have any of you done this, passed on a car because of color???

I passed on a SD that was gold with crimson interior. Looked like a Chinese restaurant on wheels. You ain't the only one. RT

I passed on many an SDL because of the color. I couldn't accept white or black or gold or light blue and I couldn't accept an interior of red or blue.

Even the gray that I have on the SDL is not a favorite, but, I do very much enjoy the palomino interior.

The SD is also grey and has a black interior. No real enthusiasm for that combo either.

I don't care if it is immaculate. Don't buy it if you are not above the 60% line as to color preferences.

I've certainly skipped eBay auctions if the car was a color I didn't like, interior or exterior. I have a strong preference for beige interiors, for example, and have a hard time getting any interest worked up in something with the blue interior (no offense to any of you with blue interiors, I hope).

I've passed on a bunch because of color, or with Benzes, interiors especially.

Now Porsche used to have a hideous green color that we called "Porsche Antitheft Green"

Yup. IMHO, MB's do not look good in silver or black. Ugh!

Look at the color offerings of the new CDI's. Several different shades of "silver". They're all just "gray" to me. Same with black. What the heck is "onyx", anyway...?

I'm partial to a tan, white, or blue exterior, and a tan or blue interior.

Tan... What did they used to call it? Manilla Bamboo or something like that?

Seems to me that I used to see tan W123's all over the place years ago. Never see that color any more.

MB's don't look good in black? Take a look at a cherry W126 in black, a very hard color to maintain but when it is clean. W123's look ok in black.

I'm not that picky as long as the interior isn't red or blue.

They look great from the factory, but, how many of them look good after 17 years? Unless they lived in a garage and avoided the parking lots, most of them don't look so great anymore.

I did once.
I was looking at a 70 220d, one owner all original car a few years ago.
After many emails, pics and phone conversations I drove from NH to NJ to take a look at it.. I was told it was yellow, I kind of like the soft MB yellow, so I had that pictured in my mind..

When I got there the car was pulled into the driveway, as I approached I saw what I thought was a Checker MB Taxi cab, thats the shade of yellow it was, different than what I pictured.. I was shocked and instantly hated the color on that model MB.

If I did not have such an extensive conversation with the owner I would have kept on drivng past it and back to NH.

I went for a drive with the car and it was perfect, a show car.. I checked everything and was quite happy with the condition..
I told the owner I would call him next day... I wanted to sleep on it to see if I would like the yellow in the morning.

Well the next moring I decided I could not got through with it so I called the seller and told him that I liked the car and its well kept condition, but I could not get past the yellow.. He understood and a few weeks later I wound up buying a 43k mile 1970 280s in Florida, all original..
Drove it back to NH and enjoyed it for a couple of years..
It went to Sacromento from here to its new owner..

I never regretted I passed on the yellow 220d..
