I think I might just do that.
I just looked at an 81 300sd with 158K on the clock. Pretty good shape, records since 100K, semi-recent $3600 paint job (not accident related), no rust, interior in good shape. Everything worked (really!) except for the power locks (and I'm pretty sure where the problem is.)
He was asking $2550, so I could get it for let's say $2200-2300. The only reason I didn't drop the cash for it right there was that it was brown
. It's like a turd on wheels. My girlfriend thinks they are all ugly, so she didn't see what my problem was. But I think they look sweet, except for brown... At least it was good shape brown.
I've been looking for quite awhile, so maybe I'm just numb to passing on cars by now. But have any of you done this, passed on a car because of color???
