drivers door lock mechanism failing

81 240D 315k miles

well i went in to figure out why i could not unlock my door and the key would just spin. there is a sily white plastic insert in the steel lock mechanism that broke. It looks a bit like a funnel with a bar across the wide end that engages a lock lever. I glued it back together with epoxy resin, but I can just see it failing and locking me out in the rain. Is this $.04 part available (couldn't find it on fastlane) or do I have to junkyard this? 25 year old donor part is not much of a confidence builder.

anyone addressed this?

Same thing happened on my SD- so I used spiderwire fishingline and super glue. Wrapped the line around the plastic and then glued the line all the way around with super glue. It'll never fail again.

Call Phil and ask. He has many more parts than are shown on the web site.

Do what I did on my old 300D , swap the handles from driver's to passenger's side and then you'll have the less used passenger lock to use.
