How many people idle down?
How many of you allow your diesel to idle before shutting it off? If you do not it destroys the turbo or if you have an aluminum head possibly worse.
|
I idle my car for about thirty seconds before shut-down. I use the time to deploy my dash protector, unbuckle, etc.
|
yup
I let her idle down before I shut her off.
|
Same here. Longer if I have been "getting on it" or from a high speed drive such as the interstate.
|
It takes me a few moments to detach the face off my radio, unfasten my seat belt, grab my briefcase, switch off the lights/wipers/climate control, and step on the parking brake. That amounts to about thirty seconds or so, which is what the owner's manual recommends from my understanding.
|
I usually let my car chill until the pyro reads around 400 degrees F (300 takes about 10min idling). This 400 usually takes about 45sec-1min.
My usual dirivn up 6 floors in the parking garage, 1st or 2nd gear, in boost, chirping around the corners, barking tires, setting off car alarms... This usually makes things a tad warm so I let it cool down.. If I am late for class and have to beat feet quickly...I'll take it easy up the garage and shut it down sooner (30seconds-1min). |
Always, I like to sit and listen to the engine for a while sometimes :D :D
*is truly sick. |
The EGT's in the truck are always at/below 300* by the time I get to my driveway so I assume the gentle drive into my neighborhood is plenty of a cool down for either turbo vehicle. If I have just gotten off the highway then 30 seconds or so in either I think is plenty. RT

I don't seem to see where my book says that I have to or should idle down. Anyways, I changed to synthetic oil for better protection so I don't have to worry as much.

I am not sure if it helps my car “NON TURBO” but I do
Only about 30 sec. though |
No need to do it. That's why I run on synthetic oil. :D
I still do it sometimes though, depending on how much of a hurry I am. |
Risky Thread

The risky part of the thread? It looks like this is becoming an oil thread. |
