Will a 300SDL start in second gear?
... and if so, how?
 It would be handy in the slippery stuff we've been getting today. All I get leaving it in "2" is holding in first, or if I let it upshift to second by briefly selecting "3", it holds in second. Can it start out in second? Best Regards, Jim

I thought that the 300SDL (and I think all W126's) always started in 2nd gear unless you really floored the accelerator pedal. There is certainly enough torque to get you moving.

Mine as well. Never got a second gear start under any circumstances.
But, this one is very docile (low fuel) so I need the first gear.

Maybe mine is so slow under light pedal, it just feels like it's starting in second gear

have you guys checked your kickdown switches. If their stuck on you'll all ways start in first
