Has anyone tried the DashMat dashboard covers? - PeachParts Mercedes-Benz Forum

I'm thinking of getting one for my '79 MB 240D to cover
up the cracks in my dashboard...

The price is good, at about $24 plus $5 shipping:

However, I was wondering how this solution compares to
getting one of the dash cups sold by Performance Products
for over $100...

Opinions...? Ideas...?

It's a totally different product. The molded cup is suppose to replicate the OEM appearance. The mat is just a cheap cover up. It depends on your own personal taste. Personally I find the matt veering awfully close to ballfringe around the windows.....

Those come with the 3" faux fur upgrade kit.

I think the replacement skins are too daggone shiny. I've got replacement skins on both Lilly (blue) and Marlene (black) and at certain times of the day, the sun's reflecton off of the back of the instrument hump and onto the windshield would blind you.

One of the parts cars had a dash mat that Colleen snagged and put on the 300D. It may look like hell but it works.

Heck, for $30 bucks you can't hardly go wrong. If you don't like it, offer it to someone here. I know for sure it looks better than the cracking. My cracks are starting to get cracks.....

I wonder what the velour one looks like? They didn't have one of the molded fabric ones for our cars.
Would navy blue be the match I guess for the blue interior. The closest match that is.
And uh, Billwhatever, I think Colleen is his wife.

I used dashmats for all my 240 Volvos to protect the dash and for the money, I was well satisfied. I also had one on my 300TD--'81 and it worked as well. A Cheap investment to protect the dash. I know of a DashCup in my area but its going on my 240D. I have a self made dashmat on my '99 VW NB TDI that I custom made. I fabricated a paper template and then used a piece of carpet cut from the template-however my VW Dash is Completely flat so it was an easy make. I used dull black carpeting and then had the sides trimmed with Red vinyl piping--looks great ! May be difficult on a MB as the air ducts may be difficult to achieve a perfect fit on and around . Still may be worth a try as you then could use a nice piece of high grade carpet. My only complaint on the Dashmats is the material was kind of light-still they never deteriorated and I had 3 of them.

Coverlay must be cut to fit. If it is in a bind it will warp. It may warp anyway. It has a warranty for free replacement. Someone makes a cap like coverlay that is not shiny. I saw one on a 123 coupe. Coverlay can also be painted like seat covers.

I would spend the few extra bucks to buy the hard cap like a coverlay instead of the rug. Your choice.

OK, I might regret this later, but I just ordered a DashMat (in black).
They don't make the molded fabric model for the 240D, so I went for
the original (plain) DashMat. What the heck... just $23.95... I can
always discard it and order the expensive item from PP if I don't like it.
