A few very nice W126's.

Take a look!

I like the second one. If my car was black I would build one just like it.

I really like the second body kit; I wonder if it was painted silver like my lower plastic panals if it would look good? But AMG body kits are probably harder to find then bigfoot and cost a small fortune. Also the car would have to be lower to get the right look.

I'll admit I like the second one too...I like the black in black and those wheels...but those black and white checkerboard floor mats have got to go.

One of the most beautiful cars that ever rolled off an MB assembly line.. the 86-91 LWB W126.

Hatterasguy 03-21-2005 11:58 AM

Both cars have bad floor mats! The first car has blue ones that look like they came from a carpet clearing house. The black and white ones just scream bad taste.

Wannabe AMG

Granted, it's never gonna be a performer but I'm sorely tempted to shave some off of Sybill's (87 SDL) front springs when I rebuild her front end here in a few weeks. Even with 15" wheels, there's waaaay too much space above the front tires on that car. And, SDs with 14" buntds look absurd with all that air above the wheels IMHO.

I'm right with you on this Randy.

Could you kindly measure the distance from the pavement to the inside of the fenderwell prior to cutting the front springs on the SDL? I'd like to see your before and after numbers to plan the same thing with mine. Also, please make a note of how much coil gets removed (I presume it will be something less than one full coil).

I am currently at 28" with 215-65-15's. This is probably higher than it should be due to the 24.75" dimension in the rear. :(

The SD is going to the 15" wheels with 215-65's to cut down on some of that space on it.

I'd like to find out what AMG did to the suspension. Some harder sway bar bushings up front would be nice. Along with a larger rear sway bar.

I saw a 380se today at some little used car lot with bumpers that looked like that first one front and rear, and euro lights. Thought it was kinda odd. Was average old w126 gasser otherwise. Thought I saw BBS molded into the lower airdam on that one though..

boneheaddoctor 03-21-2005 09:32 PM

I want one like the Black on black third and fourth photo..............I'm in love with that car.

Johnhef 03-21-2005 09:34 PM

well, its not a 126 but here is a stock 123 next to my 123, I removed the lowest full link from each side as well as installing the smallest (#1) spacers available from MB (it had #4's originally).

sorry its a little dark.

I assume you mean the one on the right....Nice wheels..what kind are they? They are real close to the Rims I have on my Honda.

I'm soon to have AMG 16" Pentas on mine (the 123)..... :D :D :D

I have 15" Ronal R9 rims on the W116...nice classic "Retro" look.

Johnhef 03-21-2005 09:49 PM

they're off a 01 or 02 E320 sport model. I have a second set on my 124, haven't decided which one I like them on better yet.

Hatterasguy 03-21-2005 09:52 PM

How does the car ride and drive with the cut springs? I am tempted as can be to cut mine. W126's just sit to high in front. Losing 1-1.5in in front would be perfect.

Whats the offset on those...or how much of a hubcentric spacer are you running.

Johnhef 03-21-2005 10:21 PM

I dunno what the offset is on these, they're one of the few current MB rims that will fit without spacers. The AMG 17's on my 126 in the background of that pic are one of the other styles that fit as well. The 124's don't seem to have the 123 and 126's problem of having room for the bearing cap and most 16" rims hitting the tie rods in front.

I did replace all my front end suspension bushings after cutting my springs and did an alignment on the car (duh!) everything came into original MB allowance specs, I was surprised! I'll see if I can't locate the printout from the alignment for you guys.

It does handle better, I still need to tighten the steering and then finally all should be well.
