stuck brake calipers 83 300D

Decided to attempt changing brake pads on my 83 300D. I was able to pull both pads out with no problem. When I went to replace one of the pads the other piston came out. after reading one of the threads posted on doing a brake job, I relized it said that you should keep one pad in so the other piston can be set. Now after removing the new pad I had installed, both pistons are fully extended and I can't get either of them so seat. What froze?
What did I do wrong? The car is up on jack stands and its my only ride need help fast!!

Read my thread on this page.

Yes, you must keep all other pistons from moving outward. A standard 6 inch C-clamp will work beautiful for compressing the pistons in. Watch you brake fluid reservoir. Take the cap off, or you may blow it off if you crank down on the C-clamp too fast, put some rags under the reservoir too.

Please wear some Nitril gloves when you mess with brake fluid...please....BB

Sounds like both pistons have popped out of the seal. Remove the caliper and brake line, then re-seat the pistons on the bench. I use a small piece of wood I can stick through the caliper, as it takes considerable force to get the pistons back in.

Re-install caliper, install pads, then bleed.

If the dust boots are torn, I'd do a caliper rebuild, too, unless you can't wait.
