GRRRRR.... I hate my car

I took my car for a drive up in the mountains too enjoy an early spring snow shower, and I got it stuck. I took a large 125lb rock laying along the roadside, and threw it in the trunk for traction. Then on my way home I developed an electrical problem and the battery went dead and I lost my lights, so I had to drive back in heavy snow and the dark with very dim lights.

That rock is a very bad idea....if you hit something think about the rules of physics and what it will do....

Well, it was about my only choice for traction, i could have done that, or stay stuck in the snow... I guess I could have found a downed tree and used that for traction...

Sounds like you should have taken the Subaru... I used snow tires on all 4 wheels of my 300TD and I did fine in snow this past winter with no additional weight.

Well the important thin is get it out of there as soon as practical.......I've seen what an unsecured spare tire will do in a head on accident.....and its not pretty.

There's a good chance I will be selling the car tonight or tomorrow for $800 . There is a lady who is very interested in the car, and she had her nephew look at it this afternoon, and he has to call his uncle in California who is a Mercedes mechanic, who will be fixing the car. I should be hearing back from him sometime in the next few hours, and I hope I can close the deal

What's all the worry about the rock.....Doesn't that 300 have the fuel tank to protect you from kinetically charged trunk contents? (I'm joking)

Many moons ago (Ok it was years actually) I rolled my truck end over end at 60MPH. Lucky for me I was going backwards when I hit the post that initiated the roll. Lucky too for me that I had a functional roll bar and seat belt. being that I was travelling backwards when I struck the post....my tools, skis, and other sundries were proppelled out the back doors as opposed to through the passnger compartment. Also prevented my skis from being damaged. I was alittle sore and scratched my hand but was able to get a good day in at Stowe the next day.

As far as sedans go, that back shelf is the perfect place to store stuff that you want to nail you and your passengers....

Landcrusiers are great good luck with your search.

Agreed. I had a passenger who wasn't wearing a seatbelt. When the truck stopped cartwheeling I turned to him and said "are you alright"....He wasn't there. He'd been ejected and I crawled out and found him dazed with a sore knee sitting in a pile of snow. He was sitting comfortably as if sitting in an adirondack chair, an arm on each side....There were no tracks around him...he landed there. Several minutes later while walking the site with a state police officer I was pointing out that there was limited igntion hazard because the battery was over there....I said "the windshield is around here somewhere" just as he stepped on it (it had slid under the snow) and proceeded to slip and fall on his butt. he got up and said "How is the driver?" I said "I'm fine," and he did a total double take....

Hit patch of black ice on rte. 89 in Vermont. Spun and hit the end of a run of gaurd rail. A post...hit it dead center going backwards and flipped over a few times end over end going backwards. There was basically a staraight line going from the front bumper to the rollbar.

My planned direction has been forward but when the ice intervened and the rear passed the front I said "hold on we're going for a ride" I remember it like it was yesterday....When it was actually ~1989

Technically I estimate my speed at ~60MPH I was travelling that speed going forward but I prolly scrubbed off an MPH or two turning the spin....

It was weird to be certain. I crawled out and was calling his name and then I found him. He was dazed but conscious. I told him to stay put as I wasn't sure if he was in shock or badly injured. After a minute or two he sort of came out of the daze and stood up....I'd also surmise that he was ejected not immediately but at some point during our rolling and bouncing. the car parts and gaurd rail absorbed alot of force too....
