240D 4 speed FS craigslist 120K two tone

What do you think of the two tone paint job?

Besides that, the car looks pretty cherry.

$8500 too high

Two Tone 240D

Hello

I just sold my beloved 1983 240D (Orient Red/palamino/man.shift/ 89K) this weekend for $7000. This was a second owner garaged southern rust free car with perfect books. I had all the original keys and even the original dealer order form and window sticker. The paint was perfect, not a scratch or mark anywhere. The interior was very close to showroom. As you can tell I am already missing her! If I had not run out of storage space I would have kept it.

The 240D on Ebay appears to be a nice car but the model designation is missing on the trunk (possible paintwork) and I have never seen the two tone option on US 123 vehicles. This was quite common on older SLs and coupes. Not sure about the service history.

Cheers

One more comment.......

I would never put 205/70/14s on a 123 240D. I know this is a popular idea on 123 cars but this completely changes the ride/steering quality of these cars. If the car has has the alloy option stick to factory spec. 195/70s. If the vehicle has the standard wheels w/hubcaps use 175 SR 14s.

A few years ago I bought a 5 speed, euro "85" 240D with 89K on the clock, very clean and well kept, wouldnt sell it for anything. Last week I say a "79" 300CD with 68K that a couple payed 9.5K for. It had been kept inside all of its life, those cars are out there

The missing model designation could be a Euro thing, mine doesnt say "diesel"on the trunk lid.

The car is no longer listed on eBay,....2 tone paint I have never heard of on a 123, woulda like to have seen that, whered that little "barf" face go

Stevo

They are great cars. I have owned three over the years and with my track record will probably be tempted again if the perfect 240D comes along. (It is a sickness!) That said, It would have to be a 90-100 show car in order to justify $8500+.
The 123 coupes (300CD/280CE) have always brought much higher values than the 240D. Actually low milage clean documented 123 coupes can bring 9 -18K. Lastly, European 240Ds came with model badges but in europe it is common practice to remove them. I have heard it may be connected to the cost of tags. European car taxes/tags are based on the engine displacement (the larger the engine the more tax one has to pay).
