I like to know who is the better guy to buy these filters from, they range around $20 ish for 4-5 fine fish nets.
Smaller than 10 micron?

Who buys WVO filters??

old blue jeans - seal up the pants leg by twisting the bottom end and tying with wire.

pour UCO into your free 4 micron WVO flter;

when it gets dirty use the other leg.

I REALLY Wouldnt trust an old pair of jeans as a 'main' filtration system for WVO....

They are probably OK for getting the major crud out, but you should be looking at something like a 'Whole-House' water-filter, A couple of the large 20" types with say, a 20, then a 5, then a 1 micron final filter....

Diesel-fuel systems are Just too precision and Expensive to repair to trust an pair of cruddy old jeans

mcmaster is the best place i've found for filter bags....another good place to look at if you're filtering veggie oil into a 55 gallon drum is us plastics..

http://www.usplastic.com/catalog/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=usplastic&category%5Fname=21329&product%5Fid=19540

i use either a 400 or 600 micron strainer from us plastics over my settling barrel to get the big chucks out...i've found that 200 and 100 is too fine for cold WVO unless you have a lot of time on your hands...then i use a hand pump to pump into a 50 micron nylon mesh, cleanable bag first ( part # 51635K75 on mcmaster) then into a 25/10 micron bag (5783K24)....the 50 fits into the 25/10 bag and every now and then i can pull it out and clean it with biodiesel...the cleanable bag will lead to longer filter bag life on the smaller rated micron bags...

i also have some spill pads down....mcmaster.com pages 1979-1981... the landlord appreciates these...

My filtration setup

Here is a snapshot of my setup:

I used coffee filters first - in a strainer over a bucket.
Then I pour through a Baja filter into my drum - 3 filter elements, including a water-block final element.
Manually pump the oil through a 10-micron/water-block inline filter (the small one)
And finally through a 2-micron/water-block Racor diesel fuel filter (the big one)

Here's a shot of it all together in my garage:
