I would go with OM parts only for this item, I think many would agree. Looks and longevity are not linked

hey
If i want to look at my mounts, where do i find them? Can i even see them without lifting the car up? Thanks

They're basically the only bit that attaches the engine to the body.. pretty obvious and fairly large. It's best to get a look from underneath but even then, they're not the easiest things to get to.
I am needing replacement of my exhaust side mount.. a leaking power steering pump put fluid onto it over time, and now it vibrates badly turning left. Thanks for the pics whunter -interesting and handy to have in the archives! Russ |

That is unless they are completely toast and fully collapsed, ;) in that case they where the engine mounts to the frame, under some silver looking shields |
I just replaced mine last night. quite the PITA.
My old mounts didn't look bad at all, in fact - it look as if they had been replaced not more than a few years ago - which is a good thing considering one of the mounts that Mercedes source sent me was the incorrect mount. It looks like it was bagged wrong from their supplier. I also replaced the transition mount as well. What a funny item that is. The logic of exactly how the trans mount works defies me. I got it in though. My lesson - the real lesson is that when I order parts to really inspect them before I start a job. I am pretty annoyed that I had to go through all that work and it isn't even 'complete'. The reason that I decided to replace the mounts to begin with was because I was having an issue with the engine revving up whenever I would hard turn up a steep incline... like pulling into a driveway. it was starting to happen more often and it was making me a little nervous. The engine doesn't vibrate any less, so - hopefully this fixed my issue. I am glad I read this thread yesterday before attempting it though. I was dressed for the occasion. |
A dirty job

Is this bad? [617 Motor Mounts/Leak] http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/diesel-discussion/281666-bad-%5B617-motor-mounts-leak%5D-post2517632.html |
Thanks for bumping this ... definately helpful to see an example ... as I mentioned in another thread, Bodhi was starting to give me some "not-so-good vibrations." On the one hand, it was kind of a like a free version of those chairs they sell in Brookstones for hundreds of dollars, but on the other hand, I figured it might be a good move to locate the source of said vibrations. I did my best to look at the mounts (it's funny, at first I didn't know where they were and didn't expect them to be so big ... it took me a couple minutes of staring all around until I looked at that gigantic thing and just went "OH ... duh." ). Definately looked like some cracks and goo on the driver's side, and I had trouble getting a good look at the other. I knew I wouldn't be able to do the job myself without causing a minor distaster, so I drove it to my indy and he's going to check it out. I told him what I felt and saw so at least I sort of felt like I had some idea of what I was talking about. "DIY" for me still means "diagnosis it yourself" ... or maybe it's more KSDIY ... "kinda sorta diagnosis it yourself." I'll update when I find out more from the indy ...

Thought it was something else
Did the driver side in 2 hours, not as bad of a job as I thought it would be. Also changed the p/s fluid, and like phidauex said, baby it's gross in there. Now, the idle is super smooth, instead of rocking the car apart. A wonderful improvement over the collapsed one. Also, on a side note, now my tach is not jumpy. Rock solid,, maybe the rocking was making it jump?

Replacing the motor mounts is not a hard job to do. Yes you will get dirty and grimy but will save tons of cash.

Corteco
Has anyone used Corteco brand engine mounts before?? I bought some from Rusty about 6 months ago and finally got the courage to dive in...actually not too bad once I jacked up the motor. However, the Corteco mounts were about 5mm taller than the old (actually didnt look that bad) and seemed to "squish" under the weight of the engine:eek: Do new OM parts do this??
|
if they are from Rusty , he will stand behind them, however, I have had problems with OEM before and always choose the OE when it comes to mounts
