Is there a way to restore backup lens back to clear?

It's the one thing that makes my car look older.

Hit it with some "grease lightning" (liquid in a spray bottel)

The stuff does wonders of getting diesel soot off my paint (also starts going for the paint too!)
You just cannot leave it on there too long or it melts the plastic...we are talking like spray on...let stand for about 3 seconds and go after it with a cloth..

See what you think.

(it might be "greased lightning"

That looks more like UV damage. Check eastwood company, I believe they may have what you are looking for.

It is UV damage. It goes all the way through the material. Buffing it off the top surface is a fantasy. Replacement is the only true cure.

Once you've replaced the lens, a little kiddie sunscreen will help prolong its life. I'll take a WAG that the "waterproof" sunscreen last longer.

Replace the light. You can get smoked, clear, or stock on ebay at pretty good prices.

ah, always saw that product and wondered if it worked. Never had a faded lens to test it on however...

Here in SD is a Paint shop that they sand the lens with 600 grit wet sanding paper after that preparation they use the regular clear lacquer and hardener(catalist) (both on a spray can) it works for the whole lens surface mine where yellowish and now they look like new see picture I did this car 1 year ago it's a 1991. I have the same procedure done to almost all my cars

The shop is behind earl shieb the one on Broadway Ave in CV I paid $35.00 about a year ago, but I did my other 2 cars myself it cost me around $12.00 for the lacquer and the catalyst (enough for 5 cars) I will look up for the store name or you can buy it at any automotive paint shop.

I doubt that the reversing lenz was much clearer when new. I have owned several cars built in the '80s and none had "CLEAR" recversing lamps or turn signals, they were all opaque.
Putting a CLEAR lenz on it will only look cheap and plasticky.
The opaque lenz was designed to give a good spread of light.
Be content. Accept age with grace. Grey hair is not the first sign of age, opaque reversing lenses are. The car was born with them.

Agreed (even though I am young)...
The white with the overtone of a black/grey makes the plastic look solid and good when it lights up..
I like it

A lot of patience and work on it, also clear silicon to hold the implant.
