What's the best oil..........Hmmmm, I use Moble-One W15-50, as do many others here and change at 5K miles. Oil analysis done by a member here ( he has the same 603 I have) concluded that soot levels in the oil, after 5K miles, start to become abrasive, thus decreasing lubricating quality.

Other members will argue that synthetic oils are really no better than standard diesel rated oils, and that may be true to a point, 3K mile change, but synthetic oils may allow another 2K miles before oil change. ....BB

Their is no such thing as Mobil 1 20w-50. But their is 15w-50 that is what I will assume you are talking about. I have run mine year round on it without any problems and my engine has way more miles then yours.

HDEO Diesel - Mobil Delvac 1300, Shell Rotella T, Chevron Delo 400.

Preston;

Since in you're involved with HD diesels, I think a 15w40 HDEO, is ideal. These are the best oils for diesels. If you want to spend more money and use a synthetic oil, consider Mobil Delvac 1 5w40, Shell Rotella T Synthetic 5w40, etc. These HDEO's, have Soot Control additives, the PCMO's, (car oils), don't have, and the anti-wear capacities that the newer car oils lack.

Change the oil and filter in a timely fashion for the way you drive, at least to Mercedes-Benz specs, or better. Drive Safely...Paul
