Value of rust-free '82 240D in Canada?
Hi Folks,
Circumstances may compel me to sell my beloved 1982 240D auto. It has 205Kmiles, and is mechanically in great condition (new brakes, new front end parts, new CV joints, new tires in front). I adjusted the valves in the Fall and there is virtually no chain stretch. A/C works, as do all instruments etc. Best thing about it is that it has no rust at all (it came from Arizona and has only spent 6-7 years in Canada, and has seen no winters since I bought it 5 years ago - I have had it rustproofed every year). Interior very good, non smoker, PO replaced the dash. Garage stored. So: what do you think I could get for it on the market? I just had it appraised for insurance purposes, and the value assigned was $6500 Cdn. Any thoughts? Thanks. --Robert

Where in canada are you? Possiblly one of my friends may be interested. Automatic transmission hurts value unfortunatly to some extent. Insurance appraisals for value are inflated pretty bad usually in my experience. Unless they are trying to settle a claim. Then their valuations all of a sudden become a little more than half of the true value.

Thanks for the input.
I live in Ottawa, Ontario. As far as appraisal value, the appraiser I deal with is not the kind who vastly inflates values. He typically looks at vehicle condition, and consults various pricing sources on the net and elsewhere. I've found the values he's appraised my various vehicles over the years to be pretty close to what they seemed to go for in the marketplace. The colour of mine is tan. I know, I would have preferred it to be manual transmission, but I gather those are not very plentiful. Mine actually has decent acceleration (for an automatic). Probably because the later W123's had higher output engines, and it's tuned very well. Anyway, I paid $6-6500 Cdn for it 5 years ago (forget the exact amount). THe PO had had this vehicle dealer-serviced all the time (he owned 2-3 Benz's). Cheers.
