85SD questions
ok..... my new to me 85 300SD will be at my place with in a few days. What is NOT an issue with the SD that is with the 300D. Such as vacuum shift issues with tranny. Is their no vacuum tranny thingy (forget the term) on it or am I dreaming? What about AC? is the SD's AC still heavily vacuum controlled etc.?

It is probably the other way around, 300D won't have some of the issues of an SD. An exception for the SD is that the door lock system works off of a vac pump in the trunk and is separate from all other vacuum. The 85 will be 2 yrs newer, and has electric speedo and oil gage, I believe, as opposed to the mechanical ones for the 83 300D. The car is longer and quieter, should have electric front seats, somewhat different interior layout, but same engine and tranny as an 85 300D. Rear end is mechanically same, but axle swaps between D's and SD's require different spacers in differential. There are surely other issues beyond these.

I am a former owner of a 1984 300D... now I have a 1985 300SD. The SD is just a superior vehicle IMO.
Door locks are seperate as said. Keys are different (four cuts versus two as I remeber). Larger inside, AC is the same tho' one line is in a different place. Better stereo, ABS, air bags, etc. Drive them both and you'll see, I love my SD over the D.
