bad vacuum cutoff in iginition switch

Do you have to pull the whole ignition switch assembly to replace a bad /leaking /oil soaked vacuum valve in the ignition switch. Any detailed guidelines for doing that. Did a search and didnt find much detail. Just the usual references to the switch getting oil in it from a bad cuf off value on the IP Thanks Russ

You can do it by removing the instrument cluster and R+R the valve. I have done it this way.

You sure its the switch on the ignition and not the one on the IP?

It is possible to get it off with the switch still in the car, you'll need to pull the cluster and get a shorty screwdriver. Hopefully you can break the screw free.

Thanks for the guidance. Yep it's the vacuum cutoff on the switch. Just replaced the leaking cutoff valve on the IP. checked it with my mity Vac tool and if I plug the brown line to the switch It holds vacuum on the system. If I plug the line from the switch to the IP cutoff valve no vacuum. Its the valve in the switch. It is also full of oil from the old leaking cutoff on the IP.

I replaced mine without pulling the instruments. Get a 90 degree screwdriver and be ready to stand on your head. I love oil in vacuum lines it makes the vacuum run easy.

That's why I did it by removing the instrument cluster. Your siting in the drivers seat and not standing on you head. To old for that.

You might want to pull the assembly anyway. If your vacuum switch has failed you've likely got oil all inside the assembly.

especially if you discovered the problem due to oil dripping.
