A little more power please.....

Back in December we put the new rebuilt engine in the 91 350sdl.. It runs great, but don't really think it has the Power that the old one had... Before you could hear the Turbo whistling a fair amount, now you don't. I know the car has the ability to have the power, but don't know if its been tweaked enough or at all... The new engine came with a new injection pump etc.. Any suggestions on what I can look for or simple adjustments I can make??? Thanks...

maybe there was some adjustment you had made on the prior eng that you forgot to make on the new one, also there might be a leaky vac line that was done during installation, or maybe the eng you got has a different IP timing, for some reason I think it has to do with some adjustment that is different from eng to eng since all things being equal the new one should run better.

Since I had purchased the car used, I don't know if other adjustments had been made..

I have thought about that... I have only put about 6000 miles on it since installation...

"Power" is a very subjective thing.

To determine if it has the horsepower, perform a 0-60 run, on level ground, and report back.

However, pedal feel is an entirely different story. If the engine is running with less fuel at lower speeds, the 603 can "feel" terribly slow. Ask me how I know.

So, if you don't have any low speed smoke, and it feels slow off the line and around town, you can tweak the ALDA for more fuel. It'a a PITA to get at unless you remove the entire unit from the IP. Dave has many good photos of how to do this.

I was speaking with the Mechanic that installed the engine and we decided that we should wait until the warranty is up before we start Tweaking things on the engine. Just a couple more months...

a knowledgable

diesel specialist should be able to optomise the fuel mix and timing for max performance. wont hurt to wait til you have more miles but also wont hurt to do it right away. i have local diesel specialist/ farmers who will set if for about $80. i have had them do several of my diesels. sometimes it doesnt help much but sometimes it is really noticable, the improvement.
