Valve adj.- hot or cold?
Getting ready to adjust the valves in my 85sd. Looks pretty straight forward, but I have not read anywhere if the valves need to be warm or cold. Or does it matter?
I haven't adjusted valves in anything since my volkswagen days, and they really needed to be done cold. |

There are different clearances specified for a hot engine versus a cold engine. It does not matter provided that you use the correct clearance specifications.
According to the 617.95 service manual: At 20 degrees C (engine cold): Intake 0.10mm, exhaust 0.35mm At 60 degrees C (+/- 15 degrees) (engine warm): Intake 0.15mm, exhaust 0.40mm. Last edited by tangofox007; 03-22-2005 at 11:06 PM. |
