Hey group, I've searched about clatter, injectors and additives. But my question is regarding additive usage.
1987 300D Turbo - I have located the source of my clatter to the injector closest to the firewall. I don't have time to try a can of Diesel Purge the way it is intended. Tell me if this will work: I have to drive 250 miles tomorrow morning. Finally get the opportunity to really warm it up. Can I put a couple or several cans of Diesel Purge in the fuel tank and drive off on my trip without damaging any components? Will it help or hurt? If it helps, is more better than less. I mean should I put in 4 cans instead of two? Or is six better than four? If it works, I figure this is less expensive than replacing the injector. If it doesn't help, then I'm only out an expensive tank of fuel and maybe five other clean injectors. Thanks, --Craig |

I'm not certain, and I'm sure the hard core diesel heads will correct me if wrong, but can't you pull the main filter and fill it with the diesel purge, plus a can in the tank. The filter full should start the cleaning process and the stuff in the tank will continue the job. A lot less time consuming than disconnecting the fuel line and putting it in the can of purge, etc.

Back from drive
Happy Friday!
Just got back from my trip. Drove 250 miles yesterday and the same on the return today. I didn't have time to pull the fuel filter, so I just dumped two cans of Purge in the tank and drove off at 5:00 am. I tried cruising at different speeds and maintaining different RPMs to help clean things out. Even found a long straight stretch where I hit an indicated 115. There was quite a bit of smoke coming out the rear with that one. Used a little over 8 gallons of fuel, averaged 30mpg. Today I filled the tank, added a bottle of Diesel Fuel Catalyst (only thing the station had) and repeated the process. This time when I hit 110, I didn't see any smoke. The car seems to be a little quieter. Clatter is still there, but not as loud. Passed 288,000 miles and I'm still happy with my "new car". Thanks for the help and advice. --Craig Thanks for the advice. |
