Car buying advice needed.

I'm GOING to purchase a MB diesel in the ver5y near future and have narrowed it to a 98 or 99 e300d. I'm finding a few but I want to take my time and find the perfect car. What I'm thinking about doing is getting a W124 to fill the gap and I have a kid that works for me that dreams about MB's and I can work a deal with him when I find a new car.

Option #2 is a new CDi(the option that the mrs. can't know about), they scare me though why do so many dealers have deeply discounted cars with hundreds of miles on the clock? Do they run VO? I'm goingtest drive on on tuesday but I'm a little afraid if I like it theres a good chance I'll drive it home.

I'm sure there's an actual question embedded in there someplace, but danged if I could find it. Anyhoo...if you want a W124 in the meantime, and desire the most trouble free turboed option, then look for a nice '90-'93 300D 2.5 turbo. If you're feelin lucky, then by all means, move on up with the big boyz and opt for the '87 300D/TD

I haven't heard any reports (good or bad) regarding the reliability of the new CDI's, so just keep a lookout for disturbances in the force and trust your feelings, Luke.

I'm going to talk to my Dilbert on Tuesday and see which way is the best option, but too be honest I really like the 98-99 300's and do think that if I keep my eyes open I can find a low mileage car. There is one locally with 147K and good record and the price seems fair, its 3 hours away so I might take a cruise next week.
