Benz Diesel Model Summaries

Has anyone every assembled a list of the various diesel models, chassis styles, production dates, motor and trans specification, performanace data, etc? I'm somewhat interested in moving up a few years from my 85 300TD but don't have a good overview of more recent MB diesel. Thanks

MB Canada has a nice write up by daimler4 on the W124 chassis cars, it covers the diesel and mentions the head problems in the early models also compares the gassers well:
http://www.mbclubcanada.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=11

On the subject of the 300TD, I own two 123 chassis wagons, they are great! The comment an associate made after he sold his 123 and bought a 124 wagon was that there is slightly less room in the 124, in the width inside and the headroom (from the front seat to the sunroof). I also drive an '87 300D turbo (124 chassis) and really like its features but agree with the MB Canada article 100% re: cost of parts, and the greater difficulty of working on the engine associated with that model. But the performance (acceleration and fuel consumption) are measurably better. With fuel costs rising I drive the 124 whenever possible, especially now that I have a longer commute.

Why not take the best body and engine combination, ie a late W124 (94/5) with OM606. Ok I'm biased I've got one but i think its the truth. Putting my tin helmet on now
