Can a 220D be bored for 240D sleeves?

I am wondering if the 220D's block is thick enough to safely do this.I would like to keep my 68' mostly origional. But after hearing about the common tendancy for excessive cylinder wear in the 220D engines,I was wondering what would be the best repair or replacement option. How interchangable are parts between a 220D and a 240D?Could I use a sleeved 240D engine block with my 220D crankshaft and keep it to the origional 2,2L?

i dont know the

answer to your question, but i believe that if that is not possible you should be able to get sleeves to bore, sleeve and go back with stock pistons.

i would nt be surprised if you can bore and use the 240 pistons. according to my mb buyers guide, the stroke is the same and only the bore differs. i think most other parts are the same as well when comparing the early 240s. later after 80 or so there is a different setup on the ac mounting. that may affect the block casting i am not sure. the cranks and such are the same for all 240s i believe. and the 300 non turbos use all the same parts except block crank cam and oil pump... there are prob others but these are the major.
