Can a 220D be bored for 240D sleeves?

I am wondering if the 220D's block is thick enough to safely do this.I would like to keep my 68' mostly origional. But after hearing about the common tendancy for excessive cylinder wear in the 220D engines,I was wondering what would be the best repair or replacement option. How interchangable are parts between a 220D and a 240D?Could I use a sleeved 240D engine block with my 220D crankshaft and keep it to the origional 2,2L?
