5 minute slots & staging your work
I get infrequent blocks (1 plus hrs.) of time to wrench on my project. I do however frequently find the oportunity to squeeze 5 minutes here and there. Last night I completed the installation of a new front door (interior) handle. it took me about 5 minutes to remove the door's interior, (a couple of days ago) and 2 minutes last night to replace the handle. Things that I do to increase the opportunity to wrench bit by bit include:
- leaving tools out and accessable instead of neatly in box. - having "work space" in the house and in the garage (detached) - disposable gloves stashed all over the place - hand cleaner and rags proximal to kitchen sink - when I come home for work I change into clothes that are already suitable for wrenching - regardless of what opportunity may or may not arise - Have tried to block a dedicated time (evening per week) for wrenching but it just doesn't seem to hold. - My wife is totally on board with the importance of my wrenching (keeps all our cars going, saves lots of money, working towards replacing Small golf with 300d running 2 tank on wvo) What other tricks and tips have people employed to increase their efficiency? I'm contemplating getting up early in the morning (~4:30 or so) to take advantage of my "morning person" demeanor. I typically leave for work ~7 ideas????

I wrench on the cars as they come into the shop. Once I start something I have been know to pull all-nighters to finish. Once I start on something I dont like to stop. I wish I could just do a little and then go do something else, I guess I am weird.
