Purolator oil filter

2 weeks ago I changed the oil filter in my 83 300 D using a Purolator Premium plus L43056 from Advance auto parts. I know, I know it's not oem but I couldn't wait. Anyway, there are 3 copper washers that came with the Purolator that I did not install because none came out with the old filter. I only installed the large rubber o-ring gasket.

It's bugging me that there are extra parts left over. Did I screw up or should they go somewhere?
