Will a 1984 300SD alternator fit a 1987?

Does anyone know if an alternator from an '84 300SD will fit on an '87 300SDL?

Anyone want to trade an old Volvo for an '87 300sdl?

doubt it..the 84 uses V belts..the 87 uses a serpentine belt.

It seems like '86 is the cutoff, do you know if that's correct?

think its 85...the last year of the OM617.....the OM603 which started in '86 always used the serpantine belt....not sure if you can do a pulley swap however. Someone else will have to comment on that.

Thanks for the info. I'll look for another alternator.

Look for a Bosch AL117X I believe that is the 300SD alternator, 75 Amp size. Anything from the 86 - 87 cars won't fit an '85. If you return an alternator, remove the pulley as you'll probably need it for the replacement, and there are several pulleys (single and double "V" belt, keyed and unkeyed) that are in general use
