1987 300D transmission fluid
I am about to do a transmission fluid change in my 1987 300D. Do I really need to use the MB fluid? I searched the forums and found a couple of posts that said it would be ok to use dextron III. But there was no real definitive post or thread that said "it is acceptable to use x brand fluid in place of the mb fluid"
Thanks.

Don't use MB fluid, use regular old dextron 3.

Trans fix
Quote:
I was told bu MB mechanic of 27 years to add trans fix to my old 93 300D...I did, after changing trans filter, fluid and torque converter drain and fill also...smoothest shifting I've ever felt..1-2 smooth, 2-3 even smoother, 3-4 smoothest...Have you tried it...He explained that the hard shifting could virtually be eliminated with the additive....and was he ever right...

Yeah I used Trans X when I first got my car, it seemed to work well. Read the directions though, because some of that stuff cleans as well and you are supposed to change the fluid again after a few thousand miles.
Now I have Mobil 1 ATF in their which works amazingly well.
