where should oil drip from?
i noticed some oil spots after taking my 300D out today they were fresh.. bout the size of 2 quarters next to each other.. soi went under and looked.. oil pan dry.. but where the motor and bell house connect it was oil and had oil on it.. now this isnt the original transmission. is this something to worry about? i havent gotten ahold of the owner to see if they used synthetic oil.. i plan on using a dino oil . anyone know a good brand just kidding ill search for that

Rear seal? If so then you leave it until it gets bad.

degrease the engine....so you know whats wet adn whats dry....
Valve cover gasket leak is common....oil filter housing gasket leak is not uncommon.....nor are main seals

Maybe the more accurate question would be to ask "Where shouldn't oil drip from?"

I've seen leaks from the oil filter to block gasket run down the side of the pan, not off the bellhousing. I've seen valve cover gasket leaks come off the bell housing. Rear main can leak there also. Has anyone tried replacing the lower half of the rear main seal w/o removing the engine? I think the lower half is more likely to leak due to the fact that gravity pulls it down away from the sealing surface whereas the top half is pulled down onto the sealing surface.

Why would you not use synthetics? More people note that their oil leakage goes down, NOT up, when they switch from dino to man made... I think the old "it cleans out the crap holding the engine together, making it leak" is bogus...
Also for removing oil stains from concreate, get a degreaser. Pour it on and let it sit (screw mixing it), scrub the bejesus out of it, then wash it away with water... if your into the whole biodegradable thing, get some of that ~Nate |

Ask your local fire department if you can have a few...sometimes they will kick you some in the name of environmentalism.
THe ones I am thinking of are blue and super absorbant. Works good. My experience with synthetics is that my leaks leaked MORE when I was running synth...for whatever reason. But then again, there is so much crud on the OUTSIDE of my engine its probably holding it inside while I am running dino |
