IP injection lines

I have only had my 81 300SD for a year now but my question is this. Why do people change there injector line? Do they rust out or just were out? Lance

return lines?

The pressure lines from the pump to the injectors should last the life of the car. The return lines that go from injector to injector & back to the fuel filter housing crack & leak & need to be replaced with the proper fuel line-not just with vacuum hose. Paul. central FL

The lines usually only break on the 60x engines when the holding clips are broken or missing. Don't worry about them on your car.

Thanks
David

Full set of metal injector lines is good idea for high mileage engine parts stash because injector lines must be bent by hand when adjusting IP timing to compensate for timing chain stretch each 80-120k miles. And if somebody aint careful bending the lines can wreck em, especially after 250k+ miles of them repeatedly being bent to fit.

If you ever saw one broken, you'd notice the interior diameter is extremely narrow with thick walls. Narrow enough to easily get pinched when bein bent.

And that's dead-center accurate about attachment clips being critical too. The #1 fuel line on my 240D cracked at the nut where it meets the injector. The 8mm nut'n bolt attachment clip rattled off a few months earlier but i didnt realize it was critical and didnt replace it or relocate another to cover for it. Those little fiddly bit clips on injector lines deserve respect and oughta be hit with locktite to keep em from rattling loose.

Are you saying that because I dont have clips between my injector hard metal lines that that is "critical?"

What I'm sayin is injector lines not coupled together are helluva lot weaker and prone to break with constant diesel vibration as contributing factor without bein bundled together, same as David said above.

Ever play football? Same principle applies to linemen taping their fingers together.
