Is that slight irregularity when he starts to rev it what one would call nailing? Its kind of like a ping/nail when he starts his first rev at about 0:21 or so. Mine makes a sound like that and I wondered if that's what it was called. Great link.

Mines waaay smoother than that one is. Mine sounds like a generator if I rev it to 3k and hold it there....I need to make a recording tomorrow or something.

Our 83's engine does sound closer to that recording, but more "rugged", it reminds me of a Cummins/semi when idling. The difference between our two cars sounds is amazing!! I am pointing to injector issues on the 83 as the culprit for the rough idle. Purging it before made it very smooth, then back on diesel it was rough again...eh, it will be dealt with eventually.

I'll look into making a sound......maybe I'll record our van too.....it actually has a pretty sweet sound, despite being a gasser....and non-MB.....and such....

So did I. That's a great link but that engine clatters a lot more than mine. Still wondering if anyone's noticed that irregularity when he first starts to rev it. Sounds like one cylinder's got a bad injector. Anyone?

Yeah but its one irregular clatter, like one injector might be leaking when it shouldn't or something. Mine does the same thing but doesn't when its running on veggie. You can hear it at about 0:20.

he mentions its cold, mine sounds like that on a 20 degree morning and clatter goes away when it warms up. I wonder how cold it was.
