Ok is this thing supposed to be self-Tensioning or what?
The only way to apply any Tension to my AC belt is to put a pry bar on the Tensioner Pulley and tighten up the big bolt. Is there supposed to be a spring in the Tensioner Pulley? Here’s a pic, I would thing is there was a spring it would go in the area I circled in red yes i did search |

Look at the picture and see where the nut is attached to the pully/bracket assembly. Notice the shape of the bracket is such that a open end wrench will fit over it. Install the assembly with the belt on the pullies. Then use an open end wrench to apply tension on the belt pully assembly. Use another box wrench to tighten the bolt holding the whole pully assembly to the block/mounting bracket.
The area shown in the picture Dave |
I’m sorry Dave but that was not my question
Maybe I did not make my question clear enough Let me try to rephrase it I simple want to know if that pulley is self-Tensioning or not In addition, if it is self-Tensioning what dose the spring part look like? |
No the pully is not self tensioning. There is no spring. Adjust as discribed above by Dave. I don't believe the Self Tensioners came until the serpenteen (sp) belts came along.
