300SD survives 12 hour "dash-ectamy" surgery
So I've been struggling through climate control issues - Climate Control mystery is maddening-help please - and I finally decided to jump in and tackle the vacuum pod that controls the airflow through the center vents.
While I had everything apart, I also replaced the evap temp sensor, and the other sensor that sits directly behind the climate control (can't remember at the moment). It took about 12 hours to get everything apart and back together. The bulb in the "octopus" burned out right after I had everything back together, so I had to pull a lot of the center consol apart to get that fixed. Ugh. The climate control is now about 95% working. I have proper airflow again through the vents (yes!). The climate control unit still does some weird things. For example, if I start the car with ECON or normal AC buttons pushed, the unit will sometimes shut down or not blow at all (shut down meaning no airflow and no response from fan buttons). In the past the unit would be completely inoperative no matter what buttons I pushed. It would take 15 secs or so for the unit to come back to life and start working again. Now I can at least hit the MAX button and wake up the control unit and then set it back on ECON or normal AC and after that it works fine. At least it is not cycling off and on like before.
