Can I use the axles from a 115 in a 123?

I just picked up a 81 300d. Price was right but the rear end is very rough feeling at 40-45 mph and pops like bad cv joints in a front wheel drive when going slow and turning.
I am assuming I should replace the axles and I am hoping that the axles out of one of my parts cars will work, the 72 220d was very smooth with no rear noise, the 76 240d had alot of miles when I got it and I have never ran it.
Will the axles out of either of these work, should I just buy rebuilts or look for a 123 parts car?
Thanks for the help

I don't know the answer to that, but I know that the W123 rear diff will swap into a W115 so I think the axles MIGHT work as well.

Thanks for the help.
If a 123 diff. will work with 115 axles I will be in great shape.

to revive an old thread, I have the opposite question since the OP from 2005 never said specifically if it worked out.

I am curious to know if 123 axles will work in a 115. Specifically, my question is about the hubs. I have a 123 diff already, do the 115 and 123 axles share the same hub spline diameters?

I have zero axles at this time, and will need to order new axles, which gives me this problem with a 123 diff and 115 hubs

Id send the OP a PM to see how it turned out, but his last activity was 4 years ago, so probably not a way to get an answer.

I would try and compare the part numbers between the W115 and the W123 hubs and see what you get.

I know, dam cloudbrain phenomena has spoiled me rotten.

Yeah, all of us, me included. When I first started messing around with Triumphs and then VWs, I had to actually look up part numbers in catalogs that were MAILED to me. Then pick up the PHONE (with actual wires) and call a HUMAN and order the stuff ( or fill out a form , attach a CHECK and mail it, then wait 2-3 weeks). I would have given up long ago....

The 115 axles fit in the 123 and I used the original hubs from the 123.
The part numbers for the axles and the hub flanges are the same for 115 240d and 81 300d.

Thanks! This is useful to know and welcome back! :D I had sold the 115 axles with the drivetrain to a guy doing a full swap on a 220D, and had neglected to measure beforehand.

I did notice that the axle bolts for the 115 were on a whole different level than the axles made for a 123, so based on price, ill look at both options. My diff is out of a 123 300DNA

The trailing arms fit on the 107, 114, 115, 116, 123 and 126 models. Most resellers sell the same part for all vehicles. I do know however that the W116 axles are physically wider than the W123 (says so in the FSM) but whether the hubs are all the same I'm not 100% sure. It is times like this when I had grown up EPC - as the EPC on EverythingBenz - Mercedes-Benz Forum and Web Search Using Google doesn't show that info...

Brutal divorce and just quit working on stuff.
Remarried last august and getting everything back in running order or selling it.:D

^^ I understand completely. Same thing put a kink in my life, too.
