1991 300D Turbo, Good Deal or Money Pit?

This is an interesting description of the 1991 300D Turbo. According to the seller - "One of the salesmen drove it home one day and it hasn't cranked since". It has a new battery and glow plugs but still will not start. It may as simple as a clogged filter, or maybe the saleman messed up the engine (overheated??). However, it does have 280K miles. Maybe a good deal for someone nearby who can check it out. It has no reserve, and may go low.

When they say it "won't crank" that really worries me. I'd have to see the car in person to make a determination as to why, but from what the auction says it could be something simple (fuel filter as you mentioned) or something really awful like running the engine out of oil and seizing it up.
